Simon and I will have the amazing opportunity to premiere a new Steve Reich work for piano and percussion, with Colin Currie and Sam Walton, in Autumn 2014, at the Southbank and worldwide.
Ahead of this, we will be part of the Colin Currie Group at the Royal Festival Hall this November.
Pianist Andrew West and I had a lot of fun making this disc in Glasgow last year with NYCoS and the brilliant Christopher Bell. The piano writing is great – very rewarding to play. Nice to hear our hard work appreciated by Jeremy Summerly on Radio Three’s CD Review : “The two pianists here, Philip Moore and Andrew West, do an utterly astonishing job…”
So thrilled to be invited back to the Nuremberg International Chamber Music Festival in September, and to catching up with colleagues and friends made there last time. Must go easy on the Bratwurst this time…
I’ve been spending a lot of time with my head inside the piano recently, wearing latex gloves (to protect the instrument) whilst plucking and scraping strings, and generally trying to get my brain around various George Crumb scores, two of which are featured in this Queen’s Hall concert during EIF this year. But the extraordinary sounds he conjures up are worth the effort.
