New piece for Piano and Percussionist by Steve Reich

Simon and I will have the amazing opportunity to premiere a new Steve Reich work for piano and percussion, with Colin Currie and Sam Walton, in Autumn 2014, at the Southbank and worldwide.
Ahead of this, we will be part of the Colin Currie Group at the Royal Festival Hall this November.

Pianist Andrew West and I had a lot of fun making this disc in Glasgow last year with NYCoS and the supremely energetic Christopher Bell. The piano writing is terrific – very rewarding to play. Edinburgh International Festival 2013

I’ve been spending a lot of time with my head inside the piano recently, plucking, damping and scraping strings, and generally trying to get my brain around various George Crumb scores, two of which are featured in our Queen’s Hall concert at EIF this year. Needless to say, the extraordinary sounds he conjures up are worth the sweat and tears.
